You are what you eat, and it's never seemed truer than during these locavoric times we live in. Not only have people actually begun to think about where their food comes from, but so have artists -- imcluding the ones whose local food-themed works were chosen to hang throughout May for Eat Here Now! This unique show at eventgallery 910Arts was juried by Marilyn Megenity of the Mercury Café and Denver community planning honcho Peter Park, and inspired by the city's impromptu Grow Local campaign. Tonight, though, the gallery will carry its commitment to the locavore concept one step beyond by hosting an Eat Here Now! Night centered around the exhibit and featuring a well-rounded bounty of speakers and special guests. The roster features nutritionist and cooking-class maven Vicki Johnston, photographer/author Jennifer Olsen (Colorado Organic: Cooking Seasonally, Eating Locally), Whole Foods marketing specialist Janet Fiorenzo and filmmaker Army Armstrong (Seeds of Community: Creating Sustainable Family Gardens).

It's easy to gush about the "green" aspects of the one-time livery and bottling plant at 910 Santa Fe Drive ... But it's people “Denver's creative community" who led Spector to dream up the 24,600-square-foot redevelopment containing eight artist live/work lofts, 17 artist work studios, an event gallery, coffee house and open-air courtyard.

It's a 20-year-old cat-and-mouse game: Artists seek cheap space in edgy neighborhoods, then developers and loft-seeking yuppies swoop in and price the artists out. But there is dwindling real estate to play this game, many artists contend, causing many in the arts community to worry about their future. Decades of development and gentrification have left artists fewer options.
