The early works of Manivone Nonthaveth began as an intimate exploration of her native Laotian heritage. She has then extended her interest of culture and society into a photographic body of work, called “Portraits: Character Studies,” a collaborative venture between herself and her subjects, provoking raw perceptions of characters rather than identities, confronting the natural visual façades in traditional portrait making. Currently, Manivone is continuing to develop collaborative works with fellow artists through collective mediums such as photography, modeling, music, performance, painting and sculpture.
